I'll just admit it. I'm still not quite sure what I'm doing. I posted yesterday to the chatboard and then realized I probably should have gone to the weblog. I'm making another try at this, so if all of you have already read this (I'm not sure what the chatboard is all about), please forgive me. Michelle thought my fall background was a little outdated and she took it upon herself to bring me up-to-date with these summer flowers.
We're experiencing a break right now from smoke and Navy fighter jets. Hallelujah! They say it will take 10 inches of rain (in other words, a hurricane or tropical storm, neither of which we're inviting) to put out the Great Dismal Swamp fire that is burning. The ensuing smoke moves in on us like a thick fog when the wind blows in the right (wrong???) direction. The big difference is that, unlike fog, it affects our eyes and throats and the smell can even permeate ones house and clothing.
Paul and I made a one-day trip to Harrisonburg for a funeral today. We left home with another couple at 5:30 a.m. for the 11:00 a.m. service. We had lunch at the Dayton Farmers Market with our friends, Mark and Martha Yoder, and my aunt, Shirley Yoder, before coming back home. We will all enjoy a free day tomorrow, the 4th. Michelle and Maria are in summer school five days a week, four hours a day, for eight weeks taking Algebra II. Every two days is equal to about a week of regular school, so it is very fast paced. But only having to focus on one subject is nice. They had not had this yet and didn't want to have any math in their senior year. It's going real good. Summer school, along with some work at Bergey's Breadbasket, is filling up their summer nicely.
Paul and I got away for two nights at the end of May to celebrate 22 years of marriage. We spent most of the time driving and made a big circle. Drove to New Bern, North Carolina and then on to Morehead City, visited friends in Harker's Island, took a 2-1/2 hr. ferry from Cedar Island to Okracoke, then a ferry to Hatteras Island, and up through Carolina to home. We enjoyed good seafood in River Bend, outside New Bern and I had my first -ever shrimp burger on Harker's Island.
We're enjoying wonderful things from the garden Paul enjoys managing! Right now we are getting tomatoes, green peppers, cucumbers and gorgeous eggplant. We all love eggplant. It is a tradition that I make a Greek dish "Moussaka" every summer. It's kinda involved, so I usually only make it once. But, we devoured it when I made it this week, so I'll probably do it again. Otherwise, I just slice it, dip it in beaten egg and seasoned breadcrumbs, and fry it. We eat it as a side dish with spaghetti or other Italian dishes. Corn has been in for about a week now too. Don't ya just luv summer eatin'?? We sure do.
Off to get some much needed sleep. Sure do enjoy reading all your posts. I'll try to do better.
